Tie Break Tens

IMG_2733

These past few weeks have been amazing, we have been working really hard on some great collaborations that I can’t wait to share with you all. Tomorrow we are off to Paris to shoot some cool looks and to attend some meetings, because although I am still posting about this season’s fashion week, we are already preparing next year’s fashion season where we hope to travel to all 4 main fashion weeks in February.

So amongst all this work it was amazing to be invited last weekend to attend and cover Tie Break Tens, an awesome tennis tournament that was aired on Sky Sports. Some of you may not know this, but I used to play professional tennis and was on the WTA world tennis tour for 4 years and part of starting my blog was to share our travels and adventure of our life on tour. It must therefore come as no surprise that I am a real sports fan so it was really great seeing such an incredible line up of famous players play at one London’s most iconic venues the Royal Albert Hall.

Tie Break Tens is such a great concept that I truly believe it has revolutionised competitive tennis. The whole tournament was to take place on one day, each match would be just 10 points long and the winner would take all, the massive $250,000 dollar prize! I could see that with such high stakes and such a quick victory or defeat that the intensity and the wow factor of the game would be increased but I could never have imaged in my wildest dreams the awesome events that ensued…

The tennis was being played from 6pm until 9pm on the Saturday, which meant that people who work during the week or who can’t take a full day or week off for some serious tennis watching could go too. We arrived early at the beautiful Royal Albert Hall just after 3.30pm to attend Andy Murray, John McEnroe and Kyle Edmund’s pre-match Press conference. We walked down into a very sumptuous green room, filled with match score boards from the previous tournament, Champions Tennis, that saw great veterans compete, with the winner Xavier Malisse earning a wild-card entry into Tie Break Tens to compete for $250,000. There were news channels, other bloggers, massive video cameras and us and we were all invited to sit in the front rows to ask the our questions to the players, two of whom had just come back from Belgium having won the Davis Cup for Britain! I lived streamed some of the press conference on my Snapchat (AbigailRoyston), it was great to hear what the players had to say – Murray hadn’t hit a ball since his massive victory but he had swung a racket in his bedroom at home and Kyle, only 20 years old was still wearing a look of disbelief that he was now amongst the legends.  John McEnroe was as animated as ever, playing some serious phycological games on the young players, knowing that he now had a better advantage without the three long sets that he would otherwise have had to play in order to win.

After taking some photos in the green room we were invited up to the top balcony, into the VIP area to watch the pre-match warm up and to have canapés and champagne. The Lanson Champagne from was to die for, the setting was sublime, giant photos of all the greats adorned the walls, white illuminated rackets and the most beautiful table settings ever with white ivory candelabras. It really felt so special to be able to enjoy tennis in such an elegant setting and the view over the whole hall and the court was fabulous.

After two flutes of champagne and unlimited canapés, we were accompanied by the awesome Tie Break Tens team to our seats. One by one Annabella Croft announced the players, Tim Henman, Xavier Malisse, Andy Murray, John McEnroe, Kyle Edmund and David Ferrer…I couldn’t have been more excited about the line up and seeing so many great players, essentially playing 10 match points and all in one day! I was living any tennis fans dream and the matches hadn’t even begun!

The tournament was structure was the following, the players made up two groups, group A and B and each player in the group had to play the other two in his group, so the first phase was a round robin and then much like the football world cup, the winner of Group A would then qualify and play the runner up of Group B and then the winner of Group B would quality and play the runner up of Group A. The winners would then play for the massive prize and the other two would battle it out for 3rd and 4th place. The veterans were put into one group and so the first match of the day was Tim Henman vs. John McEnroe, a match that was an absolute joy to watch and which Tim, after much crowd pleasing by John McEnroe, ultimately won. The short points meant that every match was unpredictable, John McEnroe just missed out on a place in the semi’s after loosing a 7-1 lead against Xavier Malisse 7-10, and of course having lost in the first round against Andy Murray, Kyle Edmund then made his way into the final to face him again having beaten the winner of the veteran group. The players were on great form laughing and joking with the crowd despite the high stakes, which made the whole event so much fun!

In a massive twist of fate, Kyle Edmund having lost easily to Andy Murray in the first round, ended up playing amazingly well in the final and won, thus doubling the total of his career prize money in a day! We were called down to view the prize giving ceremony from the reporters box and then, after Kyle received his prize, we went on court with Londongramer to watch vloggers Oakelfish and George Benson try to return Andy Murray’s serves. And I did say try…

After the match we had drinks and ate some amazing food with the players. I was meant to interview Tim Henman but due to scheduling difficulties this was put on hold, but I did get a few cheeky  photos for Andy Murray, when we discussed our time at the Open in Barcelona and caught up on some of the good friends that we have in common. Peruvian Charles, you know who I am talking about 😉 Andy was so nice, incredibly gracious in defeat, an incredible star and great role model who has raised over $50,000 with Andy’s Aces to help children in danger.

So here are some of the photos and videos from this amazing day with the most amazing team from Tie Break Tens. It was truly a privilege to cover such an incredible event, especially as one of the reasons why I started My Girls On Tour was to share my travel adventures and stories from my time playing the world tennis tour – hence the name My Girls On Tour!

Hope you like the photos of Tie Break Tens and I wanted to ask all you tennis fans out there, if you could pick one player from the history of tennis to join Tie Break Tens who would you pick and why…Can you imagine Roger Federrer vs. Nadal with the winner playing DJokovic all in one day! Mind blowing I know!

Happy Monday everybody, below is my full video of the event! 🙂

London Look

image

I absolutely love travelling and soon we will be jetting off to a super fabulous location, but as some of you have seen from my posts and Instagram, for the last couple of months I have spent a lot of my time in London working on lots of different collaborations, going to some super fun events and also going to lots of meetings! The weather is getting colder and all I can think about are bright green palm trees and beautiful beaches but things in London are so exciting and busy at the moment that I haven’t been able to leave the big smog.

So in homage to this super cool city, to the red phone boxes and the red buses, I decided to wear a fabulous black and red London Look to the Pop Pr Press day, that took place after London Fashion Week. The main focus of the look was a thick rib knit jumper with shoulder pads and gold buttons, that creates a really fierce Grace Jones 80’s style silhouette. I bought the jumper from a vintage store along Brick Lane and I am super pleased to have got it for just 20 pounds, especially as so many people have commented on it and have even thought it to be Versace. For me the piece created by the Italian designer Eleonora Scarmucci is so just special which is why I wore a black roll neck underneath and high waisted black jeans, to not only draw attention to it, but also to help with silhouette shape the top creates.

So here are some pictures that we shot of the look, close to my house in East London. I will be sharing some of my favourite designer’s from the Pop Pr Press Day tomorrow as well as some pics of the goodie bags and my amazing time with Revlon Professional, so make sure you stay tuned 🙂

In the meantime I wanted to ask, if you could create a London Look what would you wear? What city are you spending a lot of time in at the moment and what looks do you think represent that place? Let me know,

Happy Tuesday everybody! Abi xxx

Since London Fashion Week things have been crazy! Last week we covered one of the coolest tennis tournaments ever, Tie Break Tens, where we got to interview Andy Murray and John McEnroe, drink champagne in the VIP area and even go courtside! I have posted some photos on my Instagram and I shared the whole day on my Snapchat (AbigailRoyston) but within the coming days I will share all my pics and videos with you here and on Youtube, so if you love tennis like I do, then stay tuned!

I have been going to lots of business and fashion industry meetings but with the cold weather and rain here in the London, looking fab and making a good first impression isn’t always easy. Its so cold outside so all I want to do is wrap up, but then as soon as I get inside and sit down, the temperature goes right up, so it’s a bit difficult working out how many layers to wear.

So I was super excited to discover an amazing brand called Cocoon Luxe, who I discovered when I went to meet Pop PR, just after London Fashion Week and just before their press day which was amazing and which I can’t wait to tell you about soon! Their collection of  vintage inspired versatile capes are made with cashmere and timeless tweed fabrics that literally cocoon your body, keeping you warm but super stylish.  They really do make the perfect staples for any wardrobe, creating a perfect A-line, with the heavy wool giving just enough structure to create a seamless shape. The style is perfect for layering and I loved the way that you could customise the designs with initials and mix your choice of fabric with the cut.

I really loved the rich greens and browns, especially as they offer a really classy alternative to the more traditional blacks and greys of winter collections. The hoods are perfect for looking good in rainy weather and the cut is really flattering, which I is always a bonus because in the lead up to Christmas I tend to stop eating when I hate myself and not when I am full – especially if my Mum’s mince pies are involved! So here I am rocking some of my favourite pieces from Cocoon Luxe‘s SS2016 collection, with my favourite look definitely being the Harris Tweed Collared Cape which is so chic!

Let me know what you think 🙂

  • Harris Tweed is the only fabric in the world governed by an Act of Parliament.
  • Harris Tweed must be made according to the 1993 Act: ‘With 100% pure virgin wool, dyed, spun and finished in the outer Hebrides and woven by hand by the islanders at their homes on the islands of Lewis, Harris, Uist and Barra’
  • Every 50 meters of length of fabric is checked before being stamped by hand with the ORB which is found in every genuine Harris Tweed garment. No other fabric can call itself Harris Tweed.

Christmas is coming and we are having such a fun time. On the first we set off to Ikea to buy our Christmas tree and then by the second we had found enough ball-balls and tinsel to decorate it. As I am writing our living room is filled with lights and Christmas cheer and as the days are getting shorter I am loving snuggling at home in the warm and watching films, going to winter markets and seeing all the beautiful lights in the center of London. Have you got your decorations up yet? What do you like to do in the build  up to Christmas?

We have been shooting, going to brand launches and store openings and tomorrow we have the most amazing event ever, Tie Break Tens, a day of tennis featuring some of the world’s top players. I have a massive surprise coming for all your tennis lovers and I can’t wait to reveal everything to you tomorrow!

But before I tell all, I first wanted to share some pictures from my last trip to Spain, one of the places where I played a lot of ITF and WTA tournaments when I was playing tennis on the world tour. My parents and I did a bit of a road trip through Spain and one of our final destinations was Valencia. Valencia is a beautiful city, filled with grand buildings, large squares and orange trees. It is not only the birthplace of Paella, but it is also home to the most amazing science park, the location for my outfit shoot. I have written about Valencia and the traditional festival Las Fallas, where massive caricature sculptures are burnt after weeks of fireworks, bangers and the beautiful flower procession – where women from all over Spain, dressed in traditional costumes, come to offer their flowers to the Virgin. It truly is a special place and the science park, designed in the shape of whales and fish bones is mesmerising!

Spain has so many beautiful cities, if you could visit one where would you go? If you have been, which one is your favourite?

Two days ago I had the best day out at Winter Wonderland with Farfetch and met 5 super cool bloggers who all love fashion and who were so nice! The day was awesome, we went on the biggest fairest wheel, an ice kingdom, we drank hot chocolate and went ice skating. It was just so much fun, I can’t wait to introduce my new blogger friends to you and to share all our pictures and photos with you soon.

Meeting other bloggers is one of the things that I love most about blogging and I am forever grateful that I started My Girls On Tour and that I am now part of  such an awesome community. When I first started I had no idea that there were so many amazing blogs which are all so unique and really different, so it has been a real dream to getting to know the creators behind them, reading your comments and making friends with so many of you.

So here are some photos that I took when I was out with fellow fashion blogger Georgina, the founder of Georginahart.co.uk in Shoreditch, shortly after  I met her at London Fashion Week! It was quite cold so I decided to wear a camel coloured wool jacket  and leather trousers with detail on the knees. I thought that the leopard print shoes combined well with the faux-fur trim of the coat and gave off a jungle animal type of vibe, perfect for city life, because after all, what is the city if not one big concrete jungle.

Have you met anyone from the blogger community, perhaps one of your readers or someone who’s blog you love?

Let me know, Abi xxx

Style Sportif Launch

image

As some of you already know, I started My Girls On Tour to share my stories and experiences of life on the professional tennis tour…So I am super excited to have been invited to go this Saturday to Tie Break Tens held at the Royal Albert Hall- I won’t just get to see some of my favourite players play (some of whom have just won the Davis Cup this weekend), but I am also interviewing one of the world’s most famous players for My Girls On Tour! Eeek!

I can’t wait to share it all with you soon 🙂 But before we get on to some serious tennis, I first wanted to talk about my time at the launch of the brand new fashion/fitness brand Style Sportif – an online market place that brings together some of the most famous names in sport fashion – to give us ladies some seriously stylish activewear, to not only feel good, but  to also look good whilst we are training! Or in my case, tree hugging, as I try to hold myself up after slowly dying from 5 minutes of slow running…

From super colourful leggings from Lexie Sport and Laurie Nouchka, to crazy sock designs from Move Active, chrome tops from SukiShufu and the bold very chic looks from Gymluxe, Style Sportif has a great range of stylish pieces that transition from sportswear to fashionable daywear.  At the launch, I loved looking at all the designs and I especially loved the London printed leggings and the street style pieces from Beth Richards!

The lauch was held at a very cool venue called Lights of Soho, which was just opposite where London Fashion Week had been held. The room was adorned with the coolest neon signs and riskee photographs, there was music, original cocktails on demand, Instaframs and goodie bags filled with all sorts of treats, from Coconut juice to Epoch pick me up scrub. A fashionista’s heaven!

It was in the evening and so I decided to wear black Guess Jeans, black heels and a backless sequin top from All Saints, that is perfect for events. It makes jeans look more formal and also swishes around as I walk, so it makes me feel like Cinderella – without the fear of tripping over my long ball gown.

Before Style Sportif I used to wear an oversized t-shirt and baggy sweats to do fitness in, but after seeing so many cool activewear designs I am starting to seriously re-think my poor training fashion choices…How about you, what do you guys like to wear when you work out?

So here are some pics and videos from the event.

Happy Monday everybody!

Ripped Flares for Grazia

image

Today I wanted to share an incredible Liberty of London collaboration and one of my Autumn favourite outfits that I have been wearing for the last couple of weeks around the city and to meetings.  One of the things that I love about fashion, is that good styles are always being re-used and always end up coming back around. Indeed as one of my favourite bloggers recently said “Fashion is a curious thing, it’s an endless quest to create something new by re-inventing the past.”

One of the reasons for going to Liberty’s was to see and admire their latest collaboration with Pyrrha jewellery, which I fell in love with when I saw their pieces for the first time at the Pop Pr Press Day. They feature authentic wax impressions and imagery from the Victorian Era and the pieces from this collaboration actually have the Liberty London crest embossed on them! Each iconic talisman is designed to inspire the wearer with its symbolic meaning culled from heraldry, a piece which is so inspirational that the jewellery brand has appeared in films and television shows around the world and has been worn by countless celebrities including Jennifer Lawrence, Brad Pitt, Richard Madden, and Kate Beckinsale.

image001 (1)

image

Pyrrha jewellery is hand-crafted using reclaimed sterling silver, bronze, and 14K gold with conflict-free stones, proving that in fashion there is nothing better than taking the old to make something new and original.  Indeed everyone loves an underdog and I have been particularly loving the comeback of the flared trouser leg. Who ever would of thought right? Flares look great with bohemian style looks and are a chic break away from the more hipster skinny jeans. High waisted styles are so flattering and wearing them with heels make legs look super long. Luckily a few years ago, in true hoarder style, I put all of my flares away, but didn’t get rid of them, because as my Mum says “you never know, they may come back into fashion”….

What is weird though is that although styles do come back they are often changed and slightly altered and so although my old trousers are flared they don’t look exactly like the new style of flare…How can you have more than one type of flare? I have no idea, but they designers have managed to do it…So my answer was to take an old pair of Lois Jeans, who’s colour and shape I loved but which had been slightly too long and had dragged on the floor all those years ago and rip/cut the bottom part of the flare seem off. I had seen at the local skate park a skater who had done this with some vintage Levis and they looked great…

I was a bit nervous at first ripping up such a loved pair of trousers but I was really pleased with the end result. I really loved the trim detail that I was left with and as the jean was a bit shorter I was able to show-off the lace up detail of my  gilli shoes. I wore them to lots of meetings and the style got a pretty good seal of approval as we were asked by Grazia Italia Magazine to pose for their street style section outside Liberty’s! The shoot was really relaxed and the quality of the pictures that the photographer took were incredible, I can’t wait to show them to you soon!

In the meantime here are the pics from my time at Liberty, the beautiful Pyrrha pieces and my Grazia look that we took. I was wearing a khaki wool coat, with matching khaki hand-made ceramic bracelet from Iris Sandals‘s A/W collection, who’s founder Anastasia I met for brunch at the bluebird in Chelsea to discuss her creations, a great time and collection that I can’t wait to share with you guys very soon!

So if you have some old flared at home, I really couldn’t recommend doing this enough as you’ll end up getting a whole load of new things to wear…and all for free, plus you might even get spotted by Grazia! 😉

Let me know what you think,

Abi & Bella Explore London

image

I am super happy because as I write this I have just come back from a photoshoot with one of London’s most photogenic models… Not only was everyone smiling at us as we took pictures, but Bella’s good looks brightened up the grey London skyline. Who is Bella I hear you ask? Well, she’s the star of Handpick’s promotional campaign, the one in all my pics rocking the latex look…

So you guessed it, Bella is in fact the sassiest red balloon in the world. You may have seen her in some of London’s most iconic places, spreading the word about the coolest fashion app ever, Handpick. Handpick is great because it searches across social media and a huge number of brands, to pick a selection of clothes so that you can find the perfect dress for any occasion. They feature both unknown brands and well known labels so that you can find really original looks that you wouldn’t otherwise find if you were just searching on the giant search engines. Finally some chic looks that no one else has, all without the need to scroll through endless pages of dismal dresses! Did I die and go to fashion heaven? Quite possibly…

The shoot was really fun. I decided to wear a new ASOS long sleeve dress with cut out neckline and 60’s collar, which was great because it was a bit cold out… We started off the day having coffee at Monmouth, the place that should win the prize for London’s best Cappuccino (if it hasn’t done already…) before heading off around the colourful Borough Market. Hidden away went to one of the most photogenic places in London, the famous umbrella street, a little square covered in colourful umbrellas. I loved walking through the market place with Bella, enjoying all the colourful stands of fruit, flowers and of course the amazing food!

So I hope you like the pictures from was my time exploring London with Bella and the amazing Handpick team! Bella has been to so many cool places you should definitely check out her Instagram @BellaExplores if you love London and want to see some more colourful shots of the city 🙂

Let me know what you think,
