Ripped Flares for Grazia

Ripped Flares for Grazia

Today I wanted to share an incredible Liberty of London collaboration and one of my Autumn favourite outfits that I have been wearing for the last couple of weeks around the city and to meetings.  One of the things that I love about fashion, is that good styles are always being re-used and always end up coming back around. Indeed as one of my favourite bloggers recently said “Fashion is a curious thing, it’s an endless quest to create something new by re-inventing the past.”

One of the reasons for going to Liberty’s was to see and admire their latest collaboration with Pyrrha jewellery, which I fell in love with when I saw their pieces for the first time at the Pop Pr Press Day. They feature authentic wax impressions and imagery from the Victorian Era and the pieces from this collaboration actually have the Liberty London crest embossed on them! Each iconic talisman is designed to inspire the wearer with its symbolic meaning culled from heraldry, a piece which is so inspirational that the jewellery brand has appeared in films and television shows around the world and has been worn by countless celebrities including Jennifer Lawrence, Brad Pitt, Richard Madden, and Kate Beckinsale.

Pyrrha jewellery is hand-crafted using reclaimed sterling silver, bronze, and 14K gold with conflict-free stones, proving that in fashion there is nothing better than taking the old to make something new and original.  Indeed everyone loves an underdog and I have been particularly loving the comeback of the flared trouser leg. Who ever would of thought right? Flares look great with bohemian style looks and are a chic break away from the more hipster skinny jeans. High waisted styles are so flattering and wearing them with heels make legs look super long. Luckily a few years ago, in true hoarder style, I put all of my flares away, but didn’t get rid of them, because as my Mum says “you never know, they may come back into fashion”….

What is weird though is that although styles do come back they are often changed and slightly altered and so although my old trousers are flared they don’t look exactly like the new style of flare…How can you have more than one type of flare? I have no idea, but they designers have managed to do it…So my answer was to take an old pair of Lois Jeans, who’s colour and shape I loved but which had been slightly too long and had dragged on the floor all those years ago and rip/cut the bottom part of the flare seem off. I had seen at the local skate park a skater who had done this with some vintage Levis and they looked great…

I was a bit nervous at first ripping up such a loved pair of trousers but I was really pleased with the end result. I really loved the trim detail that I was left with and as the jean was a bit shorter I was able to show-off the lace up detail of my  gilli shoes. I wore them to lots of meetings and the style got a pretty good seal of approval as we were asked by Grazia Italia Magazine to pose for their street style section outside Liberty’s! The shoot was really relaxed and the quality of the pictures that the photographer took were incredible, I can’t wait to show them to you soon!

In the meantime here are the pics from my time at Liberty, the beautiful Pyrrha pieces and my Grazia look that we took. I was wearing a khaki wool coat, with matching khaki hand-made ceramic bracelet from Iris Sandals‘s A/W collection, who’s founder Anastasia I met for brunch at the bluebird in Chelsea to discuss her creations, a great time and collection that I can’t wait to share with you guys very soon!

So if you have some old flared at home, I really couldn’t recommend doing this enough as you’ll end up getting a whole load of new things to wear…and all for free, plus you might even get spotted by Grazia! 😉

Let me know what you think,

Abi xxx

London Fashion Week SS16 Street Style

London Fashion Week SS16 Street Style

London Fashion Week Street Style

This year London Fashion Week moved to Brewer Street, at the heart of the edgy super vibrant Soho! We walked passed red Boris bikes, rainbow gay pride flags, sex shops and cafes spilling out onto the street, to finally we arrived outside Brewer Street Show Space the home of London fashion. The atmosphere outside was AMAZING! There were so many photographers, models on the red carpet, bloggers and fashionistas everywhere. The street style looks that people were wearing outside were insane and so creative! Girls with amazing hair styles, men with stilettos and the coolest head pieces, beautiful coats, vintage clothes, avant garde designs and chic dresses. The paparazzi couldn’t get enough, the cameras kept flashing away, photographers were stopping fashionistas left right and centre to get pictures. The crowds were queuing to get into the first show of the day in the BFS Fashion Show Space and tourists lined the pavements and soon with the swell of people the two groups met in the middle stopping the VIP Mercedes Benz Cars from getting through and turning the whole group into one massive fashion street party.

I took some photos outside but everything was so busy I felt pretty overwhelmed. This was my first time really experiencing the craziness of the first day at London Fashion Week, it was such a rush and you could really feel the excitement.

Here are some of my favourite street style looks with also pics of what I wore on Day 1 of London Fashion Week!!!  I wanted something comfortable yet edgy and I really liked the cut of the white crepe strappy culotte jumpsuit and I wore a black and white over sized cardigan to give it a more street style edge. A big thank you to Mawi for the incredible fun purse from their Criminal Bag Collection. So Gangster chic, dressed up or dressed down, these suede lined colourful bags are guaranteed to steal the limelight and I couldn’t think of a better statement piece. *Bling Bling 😉

Let me know what you think!

Fashion Shoot with Jonathan Martin

Fashion Shoot with Jonathan Martin

                          image

As some of you who follow me on Instagram know, I am currently exploring the beautiful city of Madrid. So I thought it would be the perfect time to share with you an incredible shoot that I did with one of Spain’s most talented photographers Jonathan Martin. He and his wife Susanna came over to England to work to work on a couple of projects one of which was our street style fashion Lookbook that we shot in edgy Brick Lane – How exciting is that!? This was my first Lookbook with a professional photographer and it was just the best, most fun day ever!

Brick Lane is such a cool area of London, the graffiti is so bright and we felt it would be the perfect place for showcasing a street style look. I chose a few different outfits and because it was still quite cold then I wore wintery style clothes. I wore an over-sized man’s blazer with shinny creepers and ripped jeans for my first outfit. I liked the simplicity, the androgyny and the powerful statement of the large black blazer, which coupled with my Pepsi Cola pin stripped t-shirt gave the outfit a New York vibe. For my second outfit I wore a very red couture jacket and styled it with a large wide brimmed hat. I also thought it would be a great time to experiment with garment lengths and so I wore a long silver kimono under a shorter blazer to mix things up and create an eye catching look. Finally I changed the feeling of the outfit again by using a tie to add a Japanese element to my over sized blazer.

Let me know which one is your favorite photo and outfit 🙂

Jonathan has worked on so many great projects. I felt a bit nervous because I am not a professional model and we were shooting in broad daylight in front of lots of people. Jonathan though really put me at ease and made it fun throughout, so much so that it was sad when it all came to an end! From Fashion to Weddings in Paris all his photos are just so beautiful and I couldn’t have been happier with the final shots! If you are looking for a great photographer for a special occasion, for a very important campaign or just to create some lovely memories then Jonathan Martin is the person for you! You can see more of Jonathan’s photos and shoots here on www.jonathanmatin.es including our very own shoot 🙂

Walking Amongst the Gods

Walking Amongst the Gods

There is something about the rocks, the wilderness of the sea and the vast openness of the mountains which is humbling. Nature’s power is the reminder that long before we were here and long after we are gone will life continue. The Earth rises and falls, the cliffs are dashed and broken. Contours are made and remade and plants die and are reborn. Walking to St David’s Head on a wild windy road flanked by mountains and water I really felt the presence of the past. Ancient monuments showing signs of early occupation, including, an iron age cliff fort, prehistoric settlements and stone circles made this journey more akin to a quest of one of the characters in Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones. When the storms hit a ship wreck and a huge prehistoric forests were unearthed. We ate out pic-nic on large rocks which had been stacked up on on top of the other by the wind and the water.

My outfit choice was deeply influenced by clothes worn by ancient civilizations. Short tops and long skirts. It was hot, so I wore my Finder Keepers Bustier. I really liked the triangle neck and I found that if I put it over my head, I could bend half of it over to turn it into a thick crop top with triangle edges. This turns it more into a neck collar, similar to the fashion worn by Egyptians and so I thought it fitting to wear it for my journey to this sacred place. We were going swimming and bathed in little coves along our walk. I wore a long white and gold cotton wrap as a skirt and rolled down the top. I really liked the new Chanel dresses that have thick waist bands as this makes actual waists look thinner. I combined it all with a double amber bracelet and top shop ankle boots.

I Woke Up Like This

I Woke Up Like This

There have been surveys done which say that people treat you differently depending on how you wear your make-up… Really, are people that shallow? Well, yes apparently they are. Too little and they will think that you are ill, verging on a mental break down. Too much and people will assume that you are a predator man eater who will steal your husbands whilst you sleep, talk you down in meetings and kick little puppies when no one is looking. So natural is the look that everyone is after…perfect make- up which looks as if you, unlike all the other women in the world (except perhaps Angelina Jolie), you wake up fresh faced and radiating beauty.

image

When I’m sleepy and before my second morning coffee I tend to not be a good judge as to how much make-up is too much. Do you ever get this? Blurred and closed lids means that I just can’t see the colors or the patches of non-rubbed in foundation and it is usually during lunch break when I walk into the ladies toilets when I get a nasty shock that I can truly see the artistic train wreck which I have painted. My optician told me to make sure I put “my contact lenses in before I did my make-up”, that way I would be able to apply it better. Apparently she assumed I did things the other way around. Needless to say the hint didn’t go a miss, so now my mirror is covered in smudges where I have got so close I bumped my head.

image

So now today, tiered after a week of studying and late nights I decided to let loose with the powder, the mascara and the concealer…To balance it out I wore my “I woke up like this t-shirt”, to instill a subconscious message inside people’s minds that I did in fact wake up like that. This means that if my make-up is looking good, they will immediately think, wow this girl is radiant…and if my face looks like that of a dog being hit with a stick, then they will sympathize with looking rough and think that I am telling the truth or at very best see past it and notice my incredible sense of humor. If all else fails I’ll just walk around with my goofy Bob, because really who doesn’t like a square toothed, leiderhausen wearing Sponge.

imageimageimage image image image image image

Finally, having been inspired by the Jean Paul Gaultier’s use of Union Jacks and styles, I decided to use this post to show case my mum’s car, the legendary MINI decked out with Sponge Bob and Union Jack pillows, which she lets my sister and I drive. This is to mark a series of upcoming posts about “Secret London”, the best little places in the city in which I am growing used to calling home. X

Pulp Fiction PVC, Fringe and Studed Boots

PVC trousers, studded boots and tassels… it may sound as if I went out of the house today looking like a Pulp Fiction wierdo. However, I hope that with this post will assure you that PVC trousers can worn reasonably tastefully without a camel toe in sight.

image

These trousers as a more stylish and daring version of comfortable leggins. They are great with any types of boots, especially shiny wellington boots when it rains, as they can tuck in to them and the rain simply bounces off them. They give any outfit an edge and give legs a slinky sexy rock chic edge that is streamlined and molded to the body. Leather and its sumptuous folds and creases could never be so smooth and light. They can be worn with large jumpers and coats and long t-shirts and still look fashionable.

Tassels have always been a scary area for me ever since my old boss bought the company secretary and I nipple tassels at the office Christmas Party held at Proud Burlesque Cabaret.  However, setting aside the sleeze for a moment,  I chose this jacket  to wear with the trousers as I loved the contrast of the dull suede against the shiny plastic and the fringe just added more fuel to the “I am a lyrical and musical bad ass” fire, which is topped off with the studded boots.

Studs can look kitsch, but the details are black and so do not show up too much. Instead they create a shimmering wave effect across the whole lower foot area. The flap makes the foot thicker than the lower leg, making it look slimmer and it hides the laces and the otherwise skinny top withered part of the boot. A cashmere roll neck long sleeve thin jumper doesn’t take anything away from the jacket and the trousers and  adds some elegance to these maverick pieces. Let me know what you think of the look 🙂

Welcome to the Urban Jungle

Welcome to the Urban Jungle

There is nothing better to brighten up an outfit than a colorful blazer or a patterned top. Invariably we make the top half of our outfit the center piece, but what if for once we made the focus of our look our bottom half. The other day when I was walking down Roman Road Market, I saw some very bright geometric patterned thick leggins.  I took a deep breath and thought, Hey why not!

image

So this is how I have combined them into an outfit which I feel is eye catching and yet blends in with the other hipsters and alternative fashions of London’s East End. The leggins have black, green, yellow and white in them and so really they could be worn with any combination of those colors. I chose a lemon yellow jumper to go over a white t-shirt with black bold letters on it and white converse. Let me know what you think!
