French tribute- Baby Blue, Espadrills and Louis Vuitton

French tribute- Baby Blue, Espadrills and Louis Vuitton

Its official, spring has sprung and now summer has arrived! I wasn’t a great fan of Espadrills, but whilst waiting at the cash desk in Zara my eye caught a pair of black leather ones and really it was just love at first sight. They have proven to be really practical and casual, but being black they can also be worn out on a day wear more formal wear might be needed. So far I have worn them out clubbing in Mayfair, to shop and also to a top London thai restaurant. What do you think about espadrills? Can they ever escape their little village roots?

For today’s look, I have worn a light blue blouse with black pockets. The material is a mix between viscose, silk and possibly cotton. The texture is so soft and light, perfect for these warm days. In the evening it also protects against the cold as it is long sleeve!

Finally, here is my new Eva Clutch which I bought during my trip to Harrods! 🙂 It can be worn across the shoulder for a more casual look but also with a gold chain for something a bit more sophisticated.

A Fashion Statement or Just The Simple Life

Sometimes I like to think what life would be like if things had turned out differently. Here are some pictures of me in a place which I loved to go, an orange grove surrounded by old oak trees. It was hot, so I wore my Ed Hardy Cap and high booted converse to help me walk along the rough terrain. The patterned t-shirt is light and combined with the white shorts can also be worn when we venture back to the city center for some evening drinks.

Complimentary Colours at the Tate Modern

Complimentary Colours at the Tate Modern

When light falls upon another color, then, as a result of this new combination, it takes on another nuance of color. – Aristotle

Today we went to the Tate Modern, so I thought it would be the perfect day to wear a bold combination of complimentary colors to see their effect on each other and to create an eye catching look.

Complimentary colors are those colors which when combined in the right proportions, produce white or black. Sir Isaac Newton devised a circle showing a spectrum of seven colors- certain colors around the circle were opposed to each other and provided the greatest contrast: red-green, yellow-violet, blue-orange.

Color makes its impact from contrasts rather than from its inherent qualities….the primary colors seem more brilliant when they are in contrast with their complementary colors. – Monet 1988

In 1872, Claude Monet painted Impression, Sunrise, a tiny orange sun and some orange light reflected on the clouds and water in the center of a hazy blue landscape. This painting, with its striking use of the complementary colors orange and blue, gave its name to the impressionist movement.

Orange and blue became an important combination for all the impressionist painters. They knew that orange placed next to blue made both colors much brighter. Auguste Renoir painted boats with stripes of chrome orange paint straight from the tube. Paul CĂ©zanne used orange made of touches of yellow, red and ochre against a blue background.

Vincent van Gogh wrote of searching for broken colors and neutral colors to harmonize the brutality of extremes, trying to make the colors intense, and not a harmony of greys. He created his own oranges with mixtures of yellow, ochre and red, and placed them next to slashes of sienna red and bottle green, and below a sky of turbulent blue and violet. He put an orange moon and stars in a cobalt blue sky.

Here I have combined my old school *slightly dirty :/ dunlop trainers with a maroon shirt for a more casual contrasting look

Describing his painting, The Night CafĂ©, to his brother Theo in 1888, Van Gogh wrote: “I sought to express with red and green the terrible human passions. The hall is blood red and pale yellow, with a green billiard table in the center, and four lamps of lemon yellow, with rays of orange and green. Everywhere it is a battle and antithesis of the most different reds and greens.”

Saint Thomas Aquinas wrote that purple looked different next to white than it did next to black, and that gold looked more striking against blue than it did against white

After visiting the Matisse exhibition we went up to the members room for some coffee and cake and some great views over London! Art is my inspiration, what is yours?

So when in Rome… Do as the Romans do. Now Italians are notoriously fashionable. So, this time, I chose to dress up whilst touring the city rather than down. I combined a light, lace and sequin dress which I matched with floral comfortable straw flip flops from accessorize for my tour of the Colosseum and the Palatine Hill. It was cool and comfortable whilst looking a darn sight better than three quarter length shorts, socks and trainers usually warn by intrepid tourists. To save some suitcase space and to attempt to travel light,  I just added some heels for the evening or some earrings for a touch more glamor.

So this is my first attempt at uploading my fashion pic of the day – so hope it works! These are my new hand-made shoes from Filling Pieces, which I love. I must credit the find of these leather shoes to my boyfriend, who having bought a similar pair last week, told me to go down to the Box Park in Shoreditch and check them out. Needless to say it was love at first sight 😉 Let me know what you think ❀

Adjacent to trendy Shoreditch, Brick Lane has become the Mecca of Vintage Fashion. London hipsters flock here in their droves. Used clothes, some designer others more like museum pieces can be used creatively to give your outfit a more retro look. Clothing is quirky, military jackets, jump suits, bowler hats and sequin dresses. This is the ultimate test for the fashion victim – to pick out and use these once discarded clothes and turn them into a vintage chic look.

This is the vintage jumper designed by Eleonora Scarmucci Milano that I bought. It has shoulder pads and I loved that it was ribbed. Here I have combined it with my killer heels from Aldo and hand-made Italian glasses from Trussardi for a chic stylish look.
