Are you ready for London Fashion Week?!

Wow! If you have been following on Instagram you will be well know that I have been to France, Madrid and Spain twice, have set up an online store which took us to Argentina. Not to mention a whole lot of amazing things have happened in between that I just can’t wait to share with you, but first I wanted to pick up our adventure at London Fashion Week!

The excitement started a few weeks ago when I received my official pass and pack from the British Fashion Council, because YES, My Girls On Tour was chosen as one of the accredited blogs of London Fashion Week! I couldn’t believe it and I was so so happy! I had been to some catwalk shows before but this time I got to go into the Designer Showrooms, backstage and see some of the most anticipated collections of spring/summer 16, an incredible experience that I just can’t wait to share with you!

I was quite relaxed in the lead up to London Fashion Week but then with one day to go, I realised that I hadn’t been to the hairdressers in about 5 months and I had nothing to wear…so the panic set in and the next days became a world wind rush!I went to Brick Lane to check out the vintage shops and boutiques to buy some fashionable things to wear. We arrived at 9am ready for some intense shopping, only to realise that as it was a week day we would have to wait till 11 to shop…11!!!!! Where are we? Cuba?

We had brunch, my favourite Eggs Benedict with Avocado and Cappuccino’s at a cafe opposite Khahaila (also an amazing place for cakes)  and waited for the shops to open… I wondered, “is this what addiction feels like”? I was supposed to buy 4 outfits but with only a couple of hours and a bit of a wondering mind it was obviously going to prove too much to pull off… My first purchase was a pair of vintage Levis high waisted hipster jeans from Rockit Vintage, a massive store filled with old vintage clothes and shoes. I loved them but I couldn’t find anything to go with them though… One store particularly stood out for me and that was the Laden Showroom full of amazing new emerging British Designers, such as Typical Freaks, Cami Cuckoo, and The Lazyones with incredibly beautiful pieces at great prices. I loved everything despite having a bit of wardrobe crisis inside the shop and after trying on about 50 things I couldn’t face asking the store manager to put any more things back…I did however buy my outfit that I wore on my first day which I can’t wait to share with you!

After the only semi successful shopping trip, I then got home and panic called Reids my favourite hairdressers and the conversation went something like this:

“What do you mean you have no space this afternoon?… Yes I know it is 3pm already…Ok, what about tomorrow morning?…What!? You only have time for half a head of highlights?!”….long pause… (an intense Dear Diary moment if ever there was one).. OK, I’LL TAKE IT! If anyone asks I’ll just have to say it’s a new type of ombre…SORTED! 😉

Ouuuuu!!!!!! I can’t contain my excitement! Its Christmas Eve, I am feeling so Christmassy I think I am almost about to explode 🙂 These last few weeks have been filled with shopping trips, mulled wine tasting, Chirstmas pie eating and carol singing. I got my second Christmas card in the post… One of my mum’s lovely cousins organized for our family to sing Christmas carols under the big fur tree in Trafalgar Square to raise money for charity, but we not only spread the Christmas cheer that evening, we also did some festive singing last night at another one of our cousin’s village in Lincolnshire. All the trees had lovely lights on them and the whole two days were just so much fun! What have you been doing in the run up to Christmas? Have you bought all your presents yet? Are you doing anything nice on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day? If you don’t celebrate Christmas, what do you celebrate and what is it like?

So far I have had a few mammoth shopping trips to get all of my presents, one of which was until 12.30pm in the giant Westfield. Going that late at night was never going to be a great idea, but we did see a massive fight in the McDonalds food court where a guy tried to hit another one over the head with a chair and my Dad spent 3 minutes trying to run back up the escalors to avoid getting clobbered himself. From aunts, to boyfriends its crazy how much time it takes to choose something that is nice, that they will hopefully enjoy but that also doesn’t break the bank. So I thought that I would share with you the presents that I have bought, where I got them from and also share some gift ideas that I had which came to under £20!

LUSH PRESENT FOR UNDER £20

My Auntie has recently been involved in a horrible accident and so we wanted something that would make her feel really pampered and relaxed. Lush is a great store to buy a lovely present for someone who you don’t get too see as often as you would like or for someone who has got quite a lot of things already. People know that it is good quality and that you have splashed the cash on something thoughtful. They do some great hand made cosmetics including bath bombs, soaps and bath fizzes. I didn’t go for the pre-packed tins because for £20 I could only get three things in a box. Instead I went round the shop and managed for £16 to get over 6 nice items: Sex Bomb Bath Bomb (£3.35), Big Blue Bath Bomb (£3.35), Sakura Bath Bomb (£3.35), Amandopondon Buble Bar (£2.75), A chunk of Sea Vegetable Soap, (£3-4) , A Little Pot of Hand Cream (£1), A snowman Bathmelt (£2). I then bought a luxury hair turban from Primark for £1.50 and some lovely bubble bath from Superdrug for £1.50 which bulked out the present and meant that she had lots of nice things to unwrap for £20.

JACKET AND HEELS FOR UNDER £15

My boyfriend bought my Mum a great present from Primark for my Mum which came to £14. We found a beautiful foam jacket, which was cut in a very chic way and was very angular, looked great and was reduced to £3!!!!! My Mum has been ill so we thought it would be nice to get her something glam, so he chose some lovely silvery black sparkly pointed stilettos to wear to a fabulous party when she is better.

FOR MUM

Forever 21 had some great stock in and I fell in love with these pointy green studded booties that cost £22. They have a slight platform and look really alternative, as if they were straight from urban outfitters. I loved the silver buckle and could easily of bought them for myself! (Must resist, the shopping trip is for others, not me!) I recently tried an amazing mascara, 3D lash mascara by Younique. Bella Lash Mafia stocks it and sends it really quickly to the UK so its a great place to buy it from. Whenever I wear it it just looks amazing, makes my eyes stand out and my eye lashes look so so long! I couldn’t recommend it enough, so I felt that I just had t share my secret and buy it for my Mum too! I finished the present off by adding large heart shapped pillow that I had bought from Primark for £4.

PINK LEATHER and SEQUIN DRESSES for £20

This season I was really impressed with Forever 21’s style. Their use of sequins and embellished style was just perfect for finding something fabulous to wear over the Christmas period, which looked super expensive and very eye catching. My sister and I did a bit of his and hers in this store. I chose a beautiful sea green/ turquoise sequin dress that was just over £20 for her to give me, which I felt would be an incredible thing to wear out to meet the girls. My boyfriend and I bought her a dirty pink faux leather jacket for £15 and a pretty girlie crochet head band for £3.

JET BLUE ZARA SLIP-ONS & PHARELL WILLIAMS ALBUM

A lot of the things in Zaras are on my Christmas list. I love their black leather backpack, their black boots and silver studded slip ons. They were also selling a beautiful camel coat, velvet cardigan and very stylish coats. If you are looking to buy a really lovely piece of clothing for someone then this is the place to go to be spoilt for choice! As it is pre-sale, everything was quite expensive, but I did find some amazing jet blue slip-ons for £19.99 that I thought my sister would really like! She asked for the Pharrell Williams Album (with Happy Single) so I bought that too 🙂

SHOES, SHOES AND MORE SHOES

Usually by Christmas they have a great new selection of clothes for the coming year and as it is winter, I have found that shoes are an easy but really lovely present to buy for somebody. My boyfriend’s present to me are a pair of high top leather Vans sneakers which I love. Some other amazing festive shoes can be found at London Rebel, that do gold toe capped booties and gold studded booties, perfect for the cold weather and for jazzing up an outfit. Finally (because I couldn’t resist buying them for myself after spending days and days buying things for other people)…I bought two pairs of shoes, one black and one white of reflective creep sneaks from Schuh. Let me know what you think?

FOR THE BOYS

My boyfriend likes wear shirts, so I bought him a Hawes & Curtis shirt for £25. It is very classic, a style which he loves and it is a very easy present for someone who has most things. My Dad also loves clothes and H&M had a great selection of casual tops and chinos. I bought a red checked thick shirt for £10 and a green thin printed t-shirt for £8. He also choose some dark brown trousers which he could dress up or down depending on the occasion and I bought him Toilet Golf from Tiger for £7 He also wanted some high top brown boots and these proved harder to find. Aldo was the best shop, their boots were stunning and so he will return there when the sales are on as the nice ones were over £100.

PRIMARK STOCKING FILLERS

If you are looking to get some great stocking fillers then go no further than Primark! I just love their sets of rings, earrings and necklaces. I also bought a 90’s chocker (£1.00).  Although they aren’t the best quality, they are great for creating cool looks and mean that you can have lots of different pieces to wear every day without spending a fortune. They are also selling women’s slippers, an almost identical version of the UGG boot slippers that cost £70 for £4 so I bought some of those for myself. Finally I bought a long thick knit scarf for £5 and some quirky fake nails for £1.

Other ideas include Boxes of Macaroons, Perfumes (We have bought Channel N5 for my Mum and Hugo Boss for me), Winking Clutch purse from Forever 21 and anything Tiffany’s 😉

The Morning of The Day After

The Morning of The Day After

      image

My last post featured our pictures from our most recent fashion event and boy did we have a good time! In fact, we had such a good Saturday night, that it would have been criminal for the universe not to counter balance this with a very very difficult day after. I’m someone who isn’t a massive fan of leaving the house late in the evening, but then when I do, I just want to stay out, and stay out, until the bar turns into the club and then the club turn into the after party. Do you get that too? I should probably learn to draw the line at that but then when I heard the gang like some party dictator, to a further destination, the 24 hour Chinese in Soho, how can I expect anything other than a very painful morning?

I reached for my ringing phone alarm and found a massive bag of prawn crackers instead. I still don’t quite understand how those things can go stale so quickly, but I obviously I hadn’t thought of that when I had removed them from the restaurant about 5 hours earlier…After shoehorning myself out of the soft rolls of duvet and duck down, I decided that only a Gingerbread Latte at Costa Coffee would help me get through the day and so we set off for Roman Road, an East London market street that is stumbling distance from my house. What do you normally do on a Sunday after a long night out? Any good hangover cures? I decided to wear my black studded boots with skinny jeans, a black top and a pin stripped grey denim jacket with some great tartan and multiple button details. Let me know what you think!? 😉

Flowers in My Head

Flowers in My Head

I have one last exam left and then I am off to Wales followed by Morocco. I wanted to do some posts before I leave London for the summer on the things that I get up to, where I live and the secret gems and hide away that are not featured in the guide books. So I’m going to start off by talking the new Olympic park which I can see from my kitchen window.

DSC_0887

Right now it is a great time to go to walk along the Green Way to the Stadium as all the flowers are out. This walk is really nice as you can see the city over in the distance and there is a great sense of space and openness.  I love having coffee at the Green Way Cafe where they have art exhibitions, a piano often played by passing by cyclists and an overgrown garden before arriving at the busy shopping mall just minutes away. This wild walk makes a change from my usual haunt, Victoria Park which has been voted London’s best park in 2014.

I wore a white floral lace top which is really light and instead of combining it with denim shorts I decided to go for cotton brown ones, which are more comfortable. This meant that I was able to run across the fields and pick flowers without worrying about them getting dirty or without being able to move. For accessories I wore hand made earrings from Lithuania which are really delicate and feminine.

I Woke Up Like This

I Woke Up Like This

There have been surveys done which say that people treat you differently depending on how you wear your make-up… Really, are people that shallow? Well, yes apparently they are. Too little and they will think that you are ill, verging on a mental break down. Too much and people will assume that you are a predator man eater who will steal your husbands whilst you sleep, talk you down in meetings and kick little puppies when no one is looking. So natural is the look that everyone is after…perfect make- up which looks as if you, unlike all the other women in the world (except perhaps Angelina Jolie), you wake up fresh faced and radiating beauty.

image

When I’m sleepy and before my second morning coffee I tend to not be a good judge as to how much make-up is too much. Do you ever get this? Blurred and closed lids means that I just can’t see the colors or the patches of non-rubbed in foundation and it is usually during lunch break when I walk into the ladies toilets when I get a nasty shock that I can truly see the artistic train wreck which I have painted. My optician told me to make sure I put “my contact lenses in before I did my make-up”, that way I would be able to apply it better. Apparently she assumed I did things the other way around. Needless to say the hint didn’t go a miss, so now my mirror is covered in smudges where I have got so close I bumped my head.

image

So now today, tiered after a week of studying and late nights I decided to let loose with the powder, the mascara and the concealer…To balance it out I wore my “I woke up like this t-shirt”, to instill a subconscious message inside people’s minds that I did in fact wake up like that. This means that if my make-up is looking good, they will immediately think, wow this girl is radiant…and if my face looks like that of a dog being hit with a stick, then they will sympathize with looking rough and think that I am telling the truth or at very best see past it and notice my incredible sense of humor. If all else fails I’ll just walk around with my goofy Bob, because really who doesn’t like a square toothed, leiderhausen wearing Sponge.

imageimageimage image image image image image

Finally, having been inspired by the Jean Paul Gaultier’s use of Union Jacks and styles, I decided to use this post to show case my mum’s car, the legendary MINI decked out with Sponge Bob and Union Jack pillows, which she lets my sister and I drive. This is to mark a series of upcoming posts about “Secret London”, the best little places in the city in which I am growing used to calling home. X
