Are you ready for London Fashion Week?!

image

Wow! If you have been following on Instagram you will be well know that I have been to France, Madrid and Spain twice, have set up an online store which took us to Argentina. Not to mention a whole lot of amazing things have happened in between that I just can’t wait to share with you, but first I wanted to pick up our adventure at London Fashion Week!

The excitement started a few weeks ago when I received my official pass and pack from the British Fashion Council, because YES, My Girls On Tour was chosen as one of the accredited blogs of London Fashion Week! I couldn’t believe it and I was so so happy! I had been to some catwalk shows before but this time I got to go into the Designer Showrooms, backstage and see some of the most anticipated collections of spring/summer 16, an incredible experience that I just can’t wait to share with you!

I was quite relaxed in the lead up to London Fashion Week but then with one day to go, I realised that I hadn’t been to the hairdressers in about 5 months and I had nothing to wear…so the panic set in and the next days became a world wind rush!I went to Brick Lane to check out the vintage shops and boutiques to buy some fashionable things to wear. We arrived at 9am ready for some intense shopping, only to realise that as it was a week day we would have to wait till 11 to shop…11!!!!! Where are we? Cuba?

We had brunch, my favourite Eggs Benedict with Avocado and Cappuccino’s at a cafe opposite Khahaila (also an amazing place for cakes)  and waited for the shops to open… I wondered, “is this what addiction feels like”? I was supposed to buy 4 outfits but with only a couple of hours and a bit of a wondering mind it was obviously going to prove too much to pull off… My first purchase was a pair of vintage Levis high waisted hipster jeans from Rockit Vintage, a massive store filled with old vintage clothes and shoes. I loved them but I couldn’t find anything to go with them though… One store particularly stood out for me and that was the Laden Showroom full of amazing new emerging British Designers, such as Typical Freaks, Cami Cuckoo, and The Lazyones with incredibly beautiful pieces at great prices. I loved everything despite having a bit of wardrobe crisis inside the shop and after trying on about 50 things I couldn’t face asking the store manager to put any more things back…I did however buy my outfit that I wore on my first day which I can’t wait to share with you!

After the only semi successful shopping trip, I then got home and panic called Reids my favourite hairdressers and the conversation went something like this:

“What do you mean you have no space this afternoon?… Yes I know it is 3pm already…Ok, what about tomorrow morning?…What!? You only have time for half a head of highlights?!”….long pause… (an intense Dear Diary moment if ever there was one).. OK, I’LL TAKE IT! If anyone asks I’ll just have to say it’s a new type of ombre…SORTED! 😉

Wow! It’s the start of  a New Year and we have so many exciting things ahead. It was with great enthusiasm that we set off to shoot this year’s first outfit inspired by love of Spanish Fashion. As some of you already know, I lived for four years in Barcelona where I played tennis and I learn so much about myself, life and a new culture during that time that I was so excited to be talking about a brand which reminds me of this time: Stradivarius.

I love Stradivarius because their casual styles are so simple. Founded in Barcelona offering an innovative take on Spanish fashion, they are the perfect place if you are looking to combine large brimmed hats, furry over-sized coats, bohemian plaid shirts and cool slip-ons. Their winter collection features lots of black leather, blue denim, camel, mauve, floral print but their new collection has some sophisticated shads of beautiful blues, reds and beiges. They have some cool metalized brogues and pointed black slip-ons which are really in fashion at the moment. For my outfit today I chose this beautiful white shirt as I loved its light material and minimalist cut, which I decided to combine it with some really girlie dirty pink and silver slip-ons (some of you may have seen me wearing the black version of these before! 😉 I loved these round John Lennon style glasses as I felt it gave the outfit a more retro look.

My breath was literally taken away by the wind and the cold air as we took the pictures, but even grey skies look beautiful around Christmas time. Today it looked like a mill pond, the color of snow. It had no depth which somehow like still water made it look deeper. The beautiful fairy lights of the Christmas tree shone in the distance and illuminated the expanse of nothingness like twinkling stars. It hasn’t snowed here yet, but it would have been magical if it had done, under the large fur tree filled with red, gold and white lights.

So here are my pictures of “Snowy White Lights” with Stradivarius ❤ Let me know what you think?

I am and always have been a massive cake enthusiast (I have the chubby childhood pictures to prove it) and I will never forget when my good friend from University knocked on my door with a box of Hummingbird’s finest vanilla cheese frosted red velvet cupcakes. I had never tried them before and sort of hesitated when I saw their bright colour, but after just one bite they went down their history and earned their place next to the greats: carrot cake, victoria sponge, anything with meringue, lemon tart & cream, groom’s cake, yull log, mince pies, tiramisu, macaroons…OK, so the list is pretty endless….

image

Despite my mum telling me that hunger is my friend, in a similar way as exercise releases endorphins, eating cake and lots of it really does make me happy, or at last I think it does at the time… So finding a fashion trend which pretty much pays homage to cake in my books is just too good to miss!

Indeed for Fall/Winter 2014-2015 it seems as though Velvet is the word on everybody’s lips: from the cake to the runways of Oscar de la Renta, Tocca, Marques Almeida, Ninna Ricci and Donna Karen, its definitely having a winter comeback. Now I know velvet conjures up images of Hugh Heffner and Mrs Havisham’s faded dress that your mum tries to convince you to wear to your school prom so that she doesn’t have to spend some money buying a new one…, BUT, it is also a very glam material, which keeps you warm in the winter time and truly gives a regal edge to any blazer or dress.

Just before Christmas I walked into H &M and saw a beautiful Red Velvet Snapback cap. I thought it was so different and original, perfect for accessorizing a street style look or adding some colour to an all black ensemble. However today I decided to wear it to my industry meetings with my Dad’s oversize velvet  Dolce & Gabanna blazer. I guess wearing man’s clothes as a woman is a whole other topic, but do let me know what you think 🙂 If you could style a cupcake which one would you do and how? What’s your favorite flavor?*

You Only Live Once

You Only Live Once

When I first heard of YOLO I thought people were talking about a type of sushi that has salmon and avocado in it. After a few calls to my local Japenese take out and a Top Table Google search for restaurants that serve YOLO, I realised that this wasn’t a buff sounding morsel but in fact a word incorporating one of life’s most important philosophies: Carpe Diem, Seize the Day, Life in the Fast Lane, You Only Live Once… YOLO.  A dim light bulb went off in my head and at lightning speed I logged in and updated my Facebook status to “Fried Chicken and Chips with Coke and Chocolate Fudge Brownie for Breakfast, YOLO”… DONE! Few!

So now that I have just narrowly avoided missing a place amongst societies most daring adventure seekers, I can now go back to painting my room…Crisis avoided!

The attitude behind YOLO is often people’ reasoning for leaving their jobs and going traveling, taking a gap year, bungee jumping whilst on holiday and doing reckless and fun things. Indeed that rush you get when you book your trip away can only be summed up by YOLO, as can those crazy travel anecdotes, reckless activities, summer love and joie de vivre that comes with the thrill of the unknown. Could this be because we not most alive when we are at our most vulnerable?

image

So whilst redecorating my room, I thought that it would be fun to do some old school wall grafitti and here I am in my painting dungarees, getting paint EVERYWHERE! I really liked this H&M crop top as it not only sums up a key idea behind My Girls On Tour and travel but the “You Only Live Once” motto is written in the same font as Yves Saint Laurent! Let me know what you think about my choice of room color… I haven’t done all the walls yet so its not too late!

The Morning of The Day After

The Morning of The Day After

      image

My last post featured our pictures from our most recent fashion event and boy did we have a good time! In fact, we had such a good Saturday night, that it would have been criminal for the universe not to counter balance this with a very very difficult day after. I’m someone who isn’t a massive fan of leaving the house late in the evening, but then when I do, I just want to stay out, and stay out, until the bar turns into the club and then the club turn into the after party. Do you get that too? I should probably learn to draw the line at that but then when I heard the gang like some party dictator, to a further destination, the 24 hour Chinese in Soho, how can I expect anything other than a very painful morning?

I reached for my ringing phone alarm and found a massive bag of prawn crackers instead. I still don’t quite understand how those things can go stale so quickly, but I obviously I hadn’t thought of that when I had removed them from the restaurant about 5 hours earlier…After shoehorning myself out of the soft rolls of duvet and duck down, I decided that only a Gingerbread Latte at Costa Coffee would help me get through the day and so we set off for Roman Road, an East London market street that is stumbling distance from my house. What do you normally do on a Sunday after a long night out? Any good hangover cures? I decided to wear my black studded boots with skinny jeans, a black top and a pin stripped grey denim jacket with some great tartan and multiple button details. Let me know what you think!? 😉

J’aime le bleu <3

J’aime le bleu <3

I am happy to announce that my dates for my mini Europe trip are set and that I shall be departing for the South of Spain in around two weeks time! I am well and truly getting in the mood for summer and my outfit choice today really reflects this. I loved all the beautiful vibrant blues that I have seen in the last few weeks – the blue of the sky and the sea, the rich sapphire color of the Majorelle Garden and the turquoise mosaics ordaining the walls of great palaces. Marrakesh was a great place to buy accessorize to infuse my outfits and I couldn’t help the silver bracelet with the large opal stones, the dark blue Fatima Hand shoes and earrings. My sister bought me the lovely bright spotty bangle in Wales and what I love is by wearing so many different shades of this lovely color from all over the world, it almost feels as if I am stepping out in many many colors. So this is my blue rainbow and like the subtle nuisances of the sea, my accessories and tie dye top each catch the eye,  sitting in harmony with each other without ever clashing.

Flowers in My Head

Flowers in My Head

I have one last exam left and then I am off to Wales followed by Morocco. I wanted to do some posts before I leave London for the summer on the things that I get up to, where I live and the secret gems and hide away that are not featured in the guide books. So I’m going to start off by talking the new Olympic park which I can see from my kitchen window.

DSC_0887

Right now it is a great time to go to walk along the Green Way to the Stadium as all the flowers are out. This walk is really nice as you can see the city over in the distance and there is a great sense of space and openness.  I love having coffee at the Green Way Cafe where they have art exhibitions, a piano often played by passing by cyclists and an overgrown garden before arriving at the busy shopping mall just minutes away. This wild walk makes a change from my usual haunt, Victoria Park which has been voted London’s best park in 2014.

I wore a white floral lace top which is really light and instead of combining it with denim shorts I decided to go for cotton brown ones, which are more comfortable. This meant that I was able to run across the fields and pick flowers without worrying about them getting dirty or without being able to move. For accessories I wore hand made earrings from Lithuania which are really delicate and feminine.

Boyfriend Jeans and Snap Back – Just Keeping It Casual

As you know my final, final ever exams are coming up. I have my first one on Tuesday so it means that my days are really busy with last minute revision and the odd panic attack in between. My friends don’t have the same timetable as me, so they are either finished or have months until they start theirs, so today they had organized to meet up. At the last minute I decided to join them as I just couldn’t resist a trip out with the girls. I kept what I wore casual and added a snap back cap to save time in doing my hair. Let me know what you think of the look?
