#MGT Valentine’s Day Tips

So Valentine’s Day and Friday the 13th are going hand in hand this year…coincidence? I don’t think so! Now in true horror story fashion, I will start off the awkward Valentine’s Day conversation by asking the question that all couples and singletons face each year  with dread- Do YOU have any nice plans for Valentine’s Day?*

*Wait for the screams/ tears/smug smile/ silence filled with utter desperation

And then after the confessions, excuses and overly detailed explanation of Gondola Rides and Afternoon Tea at the Ritz, that will make anyone in earshot super jealous, it is now my turn to answer the question.  I now must admit that I actually don’t have any Valentine’s Day plans… even though I do have a boyfriend, which come to think of it, could be the ultimate all time low. BUT, Do I have an excuse? Of course I do! Will you believe me? Probably not…

So tomorrow instead of going for a romantic meal, I am going for afternoon tea with the girlies and then I’ll be celebrating one of lovely friend’s Birthdays…it is coincidence that her party is held on Valentine’s Day and this pretty much leads me into the first of my Valentine’s Day Dos and Dont’s…

(unless it is a F*** Valentines Day party…when I guess it would make sense to throw the party on Valentine’s Day. If it isn’t a F*** Valentine’s Day party but is held ON Valentine’s Day, then it pretty much has the same effect, just saying Kinga lol :P)

Although there is no obligation on you to celebrate Valentine’s Day with the person you love by buying them a gift, doing something nice for someone, be they a friend, a spouse or a partner, is always lovely. So rather than seeing Valentine’s Day as another way of reminding you that you are single or simply a marketing scam that you can’t stop pointing out to your significant other, just embrace it as another day to show those special people around you just how special they are. If for you every day is one in which you do something nice for your partner, then it shouldn’t be a problem doing something nice on Valentine’ Day. It actually becomes quite fun looking for gifts with other people’s smiles in mind and planning surprises for loved ones, and trust me, all your effort will definitely not go unnoticed! 😉

A guy I once knew cheated on his girlfriend and when she found out, he decided to get a massive tattoo of her name across his stomach to show to her how much he loved her. Needless to say she wasn’t impressed and the last I heard of it he was in his 2nd tattoo laser removal session… So this tip isn’t just for Valentine’s Day but really it is for life in general: you could fall out of love with your Valentine through no fault of your own and end up having the name of your ex- on your arm. Also such a huge commitment could really creep the other person out…So if you are thinking about getting a V Day tattoo, I would recommend getting a “Love” removal non-permanent glitter tattoo instead like the ones I am wearing, that way you can convey your message across and look great without any of the bad consequences!

You don’t have to spend the big bucks to show someone that you love them, but if you are intending on buying a gift, especially if your buying for a women, as general advice, stay clear of practical gifts because they tend to be totally un-sexy and un-romantic. It is no secret that most women love flowers, jewellery, chocolates, romantic getaway and dinners and it probably isn’t a coincidence that those things are all things which they wouldn’t necessarily buy for themselves or which wouldn’t be any fun doing on their own. So with this in mind, I can’t say I was particularly pleased when my boyfriend told me that he was going to buy me a camera flash for Valentine’s Day because even though it was something that I actually could of really done with, there is something special about receiving a gift which you like but which you would never have bought for yourself.

A great thing to do, which doesn’t cost a lot of money, is to stay home and watch a soppy romantic comedy. Rather than scrolling through vomit inducing Facebook status updates and photo posts or crying yourself to sleep, why not watch Bridge Jones Diary, Pretty Woman,  Notting Hill, Mama Mia, The Proposal, Hitch, The Holiday, How to Loose a Guy in 10 Days, 27 Dresses, Maid in Manhattan? Sounds better, right?! Want to let the tears out, then how about The Great Gatsby, Titanic, Out of Africa, The Notebook, Moulin Rouge or Marley & Me. Fancy something a bit steamy for your and your boyfriend? I hear 50 Shades of Grey is in the cinema…or else opt for the equally bad but sexy Friends with Benefits.

Valentine’s Day is after all just another day. It’s nice to hope that you partner will do something nice for the both of you to enjoy a romantic moment together but don’t expect too much – there is nothing worse than tossing gifts aside or not appreciating effort, after all the day isn’t just about you, it is also about the the other person.

Can’t decided on flowers or chocolates? Just go for both with Red Geranium Chocolate Bouquet a stunning and brightly colored tissue of paper rose bouquet studded with 26 Ferrero Rocher & 12 milk chocolates. Buy or make your own Cupcake Bouquet or a bouquet of white stem milk chocolate roses from rose di Cioccolato. Show your loved one you care not with a real tattoo but with “Love Gold Glitter Tatts from Glitter & Gold Tatts or if you are looking for some stunning jewellery then makes sure you check out the ethical Vanila necklace from Vanilo, which is simply stunning and perfect for a romantic night out or in! Looking for “after dinner plans?” then look no further than luxurious Zumrunduanka lingerie. For fashion must haves for her, Valentino rockstuds and Fluffy accessories, like the Bon-Bon fluffy clutch or scarves from Charlotte Simone.

Leather travel bags such as this one from Aspinal of London (or cheaper version) are great statement pieces that will make any man feel like he is James Bond/ Indiana Jones on a mission. If you are looking for the male equivalent to chocolate then look no further than some malt whiskey such as The Balvenie Double Wood 12 Year Old. Sunglasses such as Ray-Ban Aviators or perhaps the Clubmaster Classic more hipster option is a great way to say I love a man who looks cool. Looking for something fun but inexpensive then how about toilet golf or else a M&S romantic meal at home/ Chinese take-away which he, for once, gets to choose.

So to all of you my lovelies,

Love, Abi xxx
