Vintage Blang Blang

Today was raining and it has got so cold here in London! 😦

So how do I deal with the cold? Apparently not very well…I tend to try to buy at least one winter coat a year and as they are expensive, I normally get them after the 24th of December in the sales. The only problem with holding out that long to buy a coat, when living in London, is that by the time you get to the sales, half of winter has already come and gone. Which can only mean way too many days shivering in doorways, flapping my arms around like a penguin trying to generate  heat and generally dying a thousand chilblain deaths whilst all the while looking unbelievable uncool in last year’s warm out coat…

So this year, I had a plan…It is pretty amazing how fashions come back around, and luckily for me, my Mum has been coat hoarding for decades. So, my plan was to raid my Mum’s old old old clothes and see what I could find! On my first rummage I found this discarded dusty old velvet coat with faux-fur collar and I just thought it would be perfect to use to ward off the cold until the sales came along 🙂 I really love eclectic looks that somehow come together and I thought that I would try for such an alternative look today for my meetings in town. I combined the coat with some dark blue jeans, a green sweat shirt and black summer platform sandals with socks to get an urban street look. I thought that lots of ethnic jewellery would look really cool with the glamorous faux-fur, so I layered up lots of eye catching  “bling bling” rings and bracelets. So let me know what you think and also, how do you deal with the cold?

PS: Thanks Mum xxx

Every story has a beginning, but I will start mine here, at the start of something big. For us this was a journey of a lifetime, where dreams were made and broken, where friendships were cherished and torn apart. We lived and still live the life of aspiration and we tell the tale of victories and defeats that come with growing up at such a young age on the brink of greatness and fame. In our world youth, beauty and riches combine. We trained hard but played even harder. Our parties’ were and always will be legendary, our travels exotic and carefree. We were becoming stars. 1. Love it. You have great style sense, creative fun & awesome looking ☺ here in Toronto it’s frickin’ freezing! -20. Not fussy. Thankfully can wear hubby’s super warm – like sweating – Canada Goose coat with warm feece lined pants & rabbit fur hat (see post “Gratitude – 14 Follows). I’d rather be in London drinking a Kilkenny on a pub patio 😉

    1. Thank you Julia ❤ OMG! -20! That is just so so cold! Does it get any colder? How long will it last like that? The goose coat sounds amazing and in fact sometimes it feels like I could do with one over here too! Last Christmas we went to the DR and stopped over in New York and it was pretty cold there but when we flew over Canada it was all white and it looked like the sea was frozen too! Brrrrrrr xxx

      1. Yes it does, sometimes -30 with the windchill – yuck!! But not as cold as the prairies where it drops to -40!!! Talk about bundled up, snowboard a must! Temps go up & down but will head straight through til end of Feb. This rigidity doesn’t usually arrive this early thus Torontonians are PISSED OFF lol. Wouldn’t u be? Lol

    1. Thank you Arielle, I am so glad you like the look 🙂 It was so cold yesterday, so my hands look a bit icy and shriveled lol. But glad you like the rings, I actually bought them all from Primark (they do some great sets for £2!). Abi xxx

  2. Beautiful jacket…that faux fur…is something I like a lot! I want a male jacket too with faux fur. In Amsterdam its not yet that cold…but in 2 weeks I will be going to London, so I will be prepared for the cold…;-) Have fun wearing that coat! * D

    1. Thank you Dennis! I totally agree, male jackets look great with faux-fur and are perfect for the winter! Oh that is great that you will be coming to London! I hope that you will have an amazing time!!! Let me know if you need any advice on things to see or places to go 🙂 I have been to Amsterdam many times because some of my best friends are Dutch and I played some WTA tennis tournaments there one summer. It is such a lovely place, but gosh it gets cold over there too!! All the best, Abi xxx

      1. Hey! I don’t know if you have visited London by now?! Hah London fashion advice, I would say wear lots of warm clothes with a hipster brim hat – at the moment it is hard to look good when it is so coooold!! ;)! Amsterdam does rock and rule!!!! Peace Out Abi xxx

      2. Hey Abigail! How are you. I have actually returned to Amsterdam last monday and I miss London. I have enjoyed myself. I have been at Camden Town, Brick Lane, Borough Market, Oxford Street, some sight seeing and Bond Street, Covent Garden and even visited Lenny Kravitz concert on saturday eve. We walked along the Thames and Tower awesome. I love the London Fashion and the people who are so truly different from each other. So stylish and good looking. I love British Style. I work for TopShop in Amsterdam as Manager and I can see the style that people adopt for themselves…love it. I bought some trendy socks, sweater and t-shirt. Even a wallet by Freitag. Thanks a lot. Let me know if you ever visit Amsterdam !

      3. Hi Dennis! I am very well thank you and I hope that you are too? I am pleased that you had such a wonderful stay in London and that you enjoyed the London fashions and styles 🙂 So you are the manager of one of my favorite shops, Top Shop…that is very very cool! As you will probably be the most fashionable person I am very honoured to have you reading my blog and also saying such great things about Londoner’s sense of style. I love that in London you can be whoever you want to be and so can go out wearing anything that you like and no one will judge you for it! I really hope to visit Amsterdam next year and so I will definitely let you know if I am coming over your way. All the best, Abi xxx

  3. Oh, wait. It was raining and so cold? No, here in the former colonies, when it’s cold we get piles of that white stuff that would be rain if it were 20 degrees warmer. Weather trash talk aside, you look great in “winter” wear. 🙂

    1. Hehhe thank you! 🙂 I think if I was living where it is actually cold, like where you are, I wouldn’t have the bravery to leave my cosy bed/ hobbit house let alone look good in the snow drift! Apparently when I was moaning on about it being cold it was still around 7C (hence the rain) :/ So I must apologize for my lack of hardiness lol and truly hats off to those of you who do venture outside when there are piles of the white stuff! ❤ Abi

    1. Thank you!!! I really like over accessorizing at the moment to make up for the lack of color and vibrance of winter outfits…I bought these from Primark for about £2.50 for the pack so I am glad you like them 🙂 Abi xxx
