They say history will always repeat itself but really no one could of expected the high waisters to come back into fashion, after all the comfortable baggy jeans and the low cut skinnies…Why can’t I just buy a pair of tight low sitting jeans that make me feel thin and let me ignore my overhanging muffin top? Do we really need to go back to the unforgiving high waist shorts that make it impossible to sneak a smaller size and make you look like you have the world’s biggest vagina?… Apparently so
Well, rather than fight the hipsters, I decided to raise the stakes. You want to go vintage? I’ll give you vintage! I embraced the elephant shorts (I say elephant because when you hold them out they look like they would fit an elephant but then I end up needing the next size up) and wore them to my first trip to the London Aquatics Center, an absolutely stunning building built for the 2012 London Olympics. I combined them with a bright red shoulder padded top which I brought in Brick Lane. I felt that the shortness of the jumper really accentuated my waist and also added a vintage 80s vibe to the outfit. I loved the military style gold buttons and the triangle shape of this unique piece. What do you think of this look?
I guess all that is left to say now is…Mouaha! Take that hispters! 1-nil to Abi! ;P

I love your red padded top, such a cool design! Would think it’d also go well with leather skinnies and some chic mules! 🙂 – Lena

I am so glad you like the jumper that I bought whilst shopping in Brick Lane. You are right it would look good with leather trousers and mules… I should give it a try sometime!;) Thanks for the great suggestion, Abi xxx

This is at the London Aquatics Center, the Olympic pool in Stratford. It is currently being used to host the Invictus Games but it is usually open to the general public. I went there a few days ago for my first swim and it was incredible. The grass wall is at the back of the building and they have it growinf up the whole back of the building. Its really stunning and I hope one day you will get to see it! All the best, Abi xxx

Very nice photos. Nice setting. Don´t agree. I think low waist is uncomfortable. Need back support, yes please! 😉 thanks for checking out my blog as well ..

Hey! Glad you like the pics! 🙂 Haha thanks for your comment, I love how different people like different styles. I guess the other benefit of high waisters is that you don’t need to worry if you bend over that your trousers are going to end up around your ankles and some poor person ends up getting a full moon eclipse. I will definitely think of back support next time I wear them 😉 Thanks for checking out my blog too! 🙂 Abi xxx

Thank you, I am so pleased that you like the outfit and the jacket. I bought it in a vintage store in brick lane and loved the padded shoulders and the way it went in at the bottom to make the top look even wider. Thanks again for commenting on the look 🙂 Abi xxx
