Shabby Chic Style

The inspiration for this outfit has come from my favorite coffee along Roman Road which has been decorated in a Shabby Chic style and is a place which I have been spending a lot of time in whilst revising for my final exams. The cafe has old distressed furnishings which have been painted and re-painted and now where it has worn out, it has has layers of different colors showing through. Candles burn in jars, fresh pastries are laid out on wooden counter tops, silver framed mirrors are askew, sumptuous pillows add elegance to the bare pine and an African giraffe towers over us and everything else.

I really like the eclectic nature behind this mix and match style and I especially love how new and old can be combined for a period yet elegant feel.  I decided to try to recreate this concept in today’s outfit.  I would need fabric which was either stained with tea, bleached or faded and so I opted for an early grey dress and rubber sole shoes. The chic element would have to come from the details, in the form of either floral patterns, earth linen, lace, or cotton ticking patterns. The dress had lace details and so I combined this with a bold statement silver necklace and some crystal encrusted bracelets. I pulled it all together with my leather jacket, which would really add to the variety of textures and materials in the outfit. Hope you like it and let me know you best tips for a Shabby Chic look?! 😉

So the great news is that nothing now seems too old or too weird to wear and everything and anything can be turned into a fashion item – the tea cosy could be passed off as a hat, that biscuit tin gathering dust in the corner of your kitchen could be a clutch bag, the cat as a scarf, those odd shoes found on the side of the motorway could be paired up…

OK, so the world probably isn’t quite ready for non matching motorway shoes…YET… but I’m sure you get the idea 😉

Every story has a beginning, but I will start mine here, at the start of something big. For us this was a journey of a lifetime, where dreams were made and broken, where friendships were cherished and torn apart. We lived and still live the life of aspiration and we tell the tale of victories and defeats that come with growing up at such a young age on the brink of greatness and fame. In our world youth, beauty and riches combine. We trained hard but played even harder. Our parties’ were and always will be legendary, our travels exotic and carefree. We were becoming stars. My Girls On Tour showcases street style looks, avant-garde fashion, new designers, fashion shows as well as travel stories and adventures. A fun window into the glamorous world of a professional tennis player turned fashionista, this is the place for wonderlust and fashion inspiration. Instragram @abigirlx Twitter @Abigailroyston
