Mama Mia! Here We Go Again

Shhh! I’ve found it…the house, the sea…its even got its very own village people – the secret Mama Mia town of the Algarve, Cacela Velha the first stop on our Portuguese road trip!

I ran out of the parked car and started clutching my purse and shouted loudly: “We danced on the beach, and we kissed on the beach, and dot dot dot – dot dot DOT that’s what they did in the olden days!” I turned around, wide eyed and grinning, so full of joy and happiness – Over the cobbled streets, the white houses loomed up ahead. Now, at this moment in time I WAS AMANDA SIEGFRIED.

And then on the wind came: “Abi! Stop being a freak! Hold the camera, I need to pee.”

Moment Over.

Mama Mia is one of my favorite films, I’ve seen it dozens of times and it never gets old. Its just a great piece of escapism, full of humor, great songs and a great love stories set in the most idyllic place. What is your favorite film? I really liked the relaxed summer outfits of the actresses in the film and their fun and care free lifestyle. The dress that I wore today has off the shoulder sleeves and I just couldn’t help twirl around in it all day long. I combined it with my pink and gold flats for a semi- Grecian look.

Casella Velha was the first place that we stopped on our Portuguese Road trip. It is very close to the Spanish boarder (Monte Gordo turn off) and is just breathtaking. You can take a boat out to a sand bank island and we ate the best marinated prawns at Casa Velha, really worth having lunch there as the quality and the price was great.

    1. Glad you like it! Yes Cacela Velha is such a tiny place and its quite hard to find if you don’t know about it. If you are passing by its a great place to have something to eat and it has a lovely walk down to harbor where you can catch a boat out to the sand bank island and just lounge around all day! Thank you for your lovely comment, I really appreciate it! Abi xxx

    1. Lol πŸ˜‰ I felt like that too when I arrived too! Unfortunately though I think Mama Mia was filmed on some Greek Island… πŸ˜₯ So it isn’t quite the original place, but it looks so similar I’m gonna say that it is! πŸ™‚ xxx

    1. I loved your post, especially the Master Card ending! That happened to me once too, not in Costa Rica but Barcelona and after gripping my bag endlessly all night, after a few too many to drink I left it with a friend (who was also drunk). He then walked off and left it there sitting alone like an unwanted girl at a prom and needless to say it didn’t last 5 minutes. Camera, money, I-pod, cards, passport, two pairs of shoes, a new handbag inside the bag – you name it, it was in there. I agree though, the worst thing was loosing the passport and the cards. You were just so lucky to get yours back! I am really glad that you liked this post and hope you for supporting my blog. All the best, Abi xxx

      1. Thank you! I was in Barcelona last summer…beautiful. I was so paranoid the whole time I made my poor husband carry our important stuff in one of those dorky under the shirt, belt things. Awful…But we didn’t lose anything.

Ugh, I feel for you that you had your things taken. It is an awfully, awful feeling. Hope you had more drinks to calm your nerves πŸ™‚

Can’t wait to see what and where you post next!

  2. Great post! I would love a Mamma Mia life. I can so see myself running around town singing, sweeping bougainvillaea leaves from my door and throwing myself off a cliff into the gorgeous azure ocean. One day maybe, but for now, thanks for checking out my blog!
